Gilberns

I have a love for Gilbern Motor Cars. Gilberns were produced in a place called Llantwit Fardre in South Wales. They were founded in the late 1950’s by a master butcher and a German engineer. Giles Smith and Bernard Frises. These brilliant cars are made with a glass fibre body. The Gilbern was always a component car rather than a kit car with the all the components being new and under warranty. The original cars were based upon the Austin A35 mechanical components, while a variety of engines were offered. A few different models of Gilberns were developed over the years being the GT, Genie, Invader Mk I, Invader MkII, Invader MkII Estate, and the Invader MkIII. Unfortunately by March 1974 Gilberns had ceased trading. Even though not many of these lovely cars were built some still survive today and most are kept with the Gilbern’s Owners club. I enjoy going to vintage car shows and so if they are not in Wales it is a particular challenge for me to track down a Gilbern at one ...

A Little bit of Vintage

There is something about seeing vintage cars that makes me want to don a head scarf and pack my picnic basket, set off into the countryside for a spiffing time with jam sandwiches and lashings and lashings of ginger beer. In reality though I am sure you would have the top of the car down, your hair looking like you styled it on the 80’s fashion complete with bugs stuck to your teeth. This vintage car show I didn’t have a picnic, but a cuppa from a dodgy vendor, but hey it was hot which was the main thing, as that point in time I was rather cold. I had just been watching a bird display with Mr Bus, which was really good and interesting but just standing there in the open made me cold as there was no where to hide from the gusts of wind. We decided on a cuppa and headed off on the forest walk as we had seen most of what we had wanted to. I did really enjoy looking around all the vintage cars etc. and also managing to find a Gilbern. This is a car that was made in Trefforest in ...

This time of year.....

Once again my beloved car is playing up, booo. I am starting to think it doesn’t like this time of year. Anyway, the garage can’t really find much wrong with it, so as I need a reliable car to get back and fore work I have decided to mosey along to a garage after work to see what they can offer me on a part exchange. I don’t really want a new car as I do love mine, but needs must!!!! As I am looking for a reliable car it would be interesting to know if anyone has any opinions on cars I really should avoid. Anyway enough of the car topic as it only depresses me…… We are nearly at the end of October and I am pleased to say I have a lot of my Christmas shopping done, woop woop check me out!!!! I am particularly looking forward to Christmas this year as my sister is expecting twins and they should arrive a few weeks before. Christmas is after all as they say for the children. It also gives me a good excuse to play with children’s toys. She has been told she is having one boy and one girl,...

Cars and Jobs

Ok Today is not a Wednesday but a Thursday, much better. I am alone in the office all day, I find this most boring as not only do I have no one to chat to, and I have no motivation to do any work. Also I can not browse the Internet as it’s not working, much to my annoyance. Damn, I don’t think I have any rambling’s to put down either!!!!!!! What am I going to do?!?!?!?! Why didn ’t anyone tell me that as soon as you have a car you never have any money? It’s true and I would warn anybody thinking of buying a car that once this is done there is no going back as it seems a necessity and that you couldn ’t function without it. Thinking I was starting to get my finances back on track and my bank balance actually looking a bit healthier, POOF there goes the exhaust on my car, eeep !!!! So I decide to be very sensible and take it in to Kwik fit straight away. I get it there and not only does it need two parts of the exhaust done but also three new tyres and the tracking!!!!!! Soooo...
