Dyfi Forest

The other weekend the fantastic Mr Bus and I went to the Dyfi forest for Mr Bus to take part in the final stage of the Gravity Enduro races. I like a dutiful girlfriend went on long to support and offer encouragement, I was happy enough I said as long as there was somewhere for me to sit, get a cuppa and read my book.
Well the brilliant Mr Bus booked us into a delightfully gorgeous B&B called the Plas Mawr which is in-between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth. First of all with the dreadful summer we have been having I was glad not to be camping in a soggy field as much as I love camping. On arrival we were able to locate the B&B with ease as it’s just on the main road through Eglwys Fach. In the vicinity is RSPB Nature Reserve and numerous areas for beautiful walks.

We were welcomed by the friendly and charming owner Tina, she greeted us at the door and made us feel right at home from the word go. Mr Bus had been in correspondence prior to our arrival to give a rough time of our arrival and also see if there was anywhere secure to store his bike. There was a garage that we could use and so we had access to it when we needed we were able to park right in front of it.
On entering the B&B the atmosphere was lovely and relaxing, we could see into the breakfast room which is well spaced, is stocked with cereals etc. has a mini fridge with juices and also milk for your tea and coffee (although you have to come down to the breakfast room to get it, I preferred this rather than UHT stuff you usually get and also to there being a loud fridge in your room). There was also a honesty snack box full of crisps and chocolate. Across from the breakfast room there is a resident’s lounge, this has a number of chairs and a sofa in, the newspaper and a PC if you wish to catch up online (there is basic wifi available and for greater use you can pay £5 for your stay and the password). On the centre of the coffee table was placed a bottle of red wine with glasses placed around it and a note attached saying that you were free to drink the wine and there was a bottle of white in the fridge in the breakfast room as long as your replaced it with one of equal value by the following day.

We were shown up to our room, which was room 1. The doors were very traditional wooden ones with big hefty locks and great old fashioned big keys to open them. We were at the front of the B&B looking out over the road. The room was huge, with a lovely comfortable bed, a tub type chair, chest of drawers, wardrobe, bedside tables with lovely lamps, a TV with free view that worked well, some shelves, a gorgeous fireplace and a hospitality tray with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, sweetener, kettle, two mugs and two glasses on. There was also a hairdryer in the top drawer and a little leaflet for you to fill out to choose what type of breakfast you wanted in the morning, the choice on there was brilliant and something to suit everyone with local produce as well. There was a fair sized shower room en-suit to the bedroom. It was all very clean and airy. Although we were at the front of the property over looking the road we weren’t disturbed by the noise at all and hardly noticed it was there.

The breakfast in the morning was superb, we had both opted for a full welsh breakfast which was lovely and tasty, made from local produce and you could really see and taste the quality. I opted for fresh coffee and My Bus had a pot of breakfast tea. We could also help ourselves to toast, cereal and fruit which were very nice indeed. We didn’t feel rushed to finish our breakfast at all, it was nice and relaxing.

Our first evening there we went into Machynlleth for food and were a bit disappointed with what they had on offer and only found out later on through twitter that there was a nice pizzeria. We had a chip shop tea in Dicks Diner, which for what is was very nice, it was clean, welcoming and the food was good. The second evening we headed into Aberystwyth for our meal, it wasn’t too far and the selection of what was on offer was much more varied. We were also lucky enough to catch an amazing sunset with the sun melting into the sea, it was a glorious evening.
Overall I would recommend this B&B to anyone; it is a great place to stay, welcoming and relaxing and very good value for money. I know we will be returning.

28 Years Later

My word I can’t believe that 28 years ago this month I met my best friend.  Who would have thought it?  We have been together through thick and thin, there have been highs and lows but like any relationship you have to work at it. We can remember that our first argument was about the size of a killer whale, I think I said it was as big as a house.  Goodness knows.  Anyway, we have had some other disagreements since then but when it comes down to it we are still there for each other.  I think we also know when we need some space and so if we don’t hear off one another for a couple of days it’s not a big thing. Ms James is my best friend for many reasons.  I know she is always there, she is very good at advice although can do with listening to her own wise words now and again, but can’t we all.  Also she doesn’t judge.  I know I can tell her anything on this planet and she won’t judge me and be nothing but a friend. I love her quirky ways and know I can have not only an

The Afternoon Teas Have Returned....Cheltenham

Hurrah, at long last the delightful afternoon teas have returned and it was kick started with a meet up with the Biffa's (self given name for my little group of lovely ladies).  We decided to meet up in Cheltenham as it's roughly half way between Bridgend and Stafford along with being a nice place. We decided to rendezvous at the Cheltenham park and ride.  I have to say one of my main priorities when visiting any where is that they have a decent easy to get to park and ride.  I mean, why battle with the inner town systems of somewhere you haven't a clue when you can just park up and jump on a bus which does the stressful bit for you. On arrival into the town we got our bearings by heading to the nearest decent looking pub and as we were driving the strongest thing we opted for was caffeine.  Still it gave us chance to have a natter, exchange some gifts and decide where we wanted to go and if anyone had anything in particular they wanted to get.

Weston Hall Afternoon Tea

Well if you haven’t guessed I do enjoy an afternoon tea even though I don’t have a sweet tooth.   For my last birthday my lovely friend Fordy got me two vouchers for afternoon tea at Weston Hall , Stafford.   Having a browse on line beforehand this looked like a marvellous setting. We arrived at this lovely building which was very picturesque the only down side was that it was quite close to a main road and this spoiled the view a bit but the noise levels weren’t too bad.   We headed into the Cellar restaurant where our afternoon tea was booked and showed into the lounge area where we would be having it.   Mr Bus and I chose some lovely sofas to sit on next to the fire, although it was the end of May we went the weather was still cold and wet so this was welcome. For our afternoon tea we could choose from a range of teas or coffee and we opted for Assam, being one of our favourites.   We were expecting to wait a little while and started to have a nose at what else they had on o
