My mum sister and I thought it would be a lovely treat to go the Wales Millennium Centre and watch Dirty Dancing. This was my sister’s favourite film when she was growing up and we thought it would be a lovely girlie day out for us as we don’t often get to do that these days what with one thing and another.
We bought the tickets for my mum’s birthday in July and were all really excited about it, as it promised great things coming from the West End. We had a Saturday afternoon showing and thought we could go for a lovely lunch first in one of the many restaurants down Cardiff Bay.
When the day finally arrived we headed for Zizzi’s to eat and to be fair the food was gorgeous and tasty. My mum had raspberry lemonade to drink which I had to try some of and it was really yummy, you could taste the raspberries in it for sure.
We headed over the Wales Millennium Centre and took our seats; we had not bad ones considering we booked quite late. We were sat in the circle. One amazing thing about the Wales Millennium Centre its designed so that no matter where you sit you get a good view and good acoustics, it’s a fantastic building and beautifully designed.
The show itself… I have to say it is one of the worst productions I have ever seen, our local amateur dramatics society puts on better productions. The cast couldn’t act or sing very well and their accents they were putting on were awful. I expected it to be cheesy but this was beyond. The only good thing they could do was dance, which was a god send given the production they were doing. It seemed they were trying to turn it into something it was not. A truly awful performance and not worth the expensive tickets in the slightest, it was a massive let down. The only people I have spoken to who seemed to have enjoyed it are those who were drunk when seeing it. The whole experience my mother and I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, we ended up laughing and then trying not to as we thought my sister might be enjoying it, but she was sat with her head in her hands thinking like us how awful it was.
If nothing else we can say that it was an experience.
