Christmas Shopping

The time is fast approaching where we start to think about fun and frolics of the festive season and as the month of December continues people become more and more manic and more and more insane with their shopping antics. If people in general aren’t already zombie like as they trudge around the shops, especially men who have been dragged along and then find themselves in the lingerie department of a store. One of my pet hates are men lingering around the aisles of female clothes shops as their girlfriend/wife bustle about, they are just getting in the way. Free the poor souls and let them go to a more manly shop whilst you’re in there or don’t bring them at all.

This time of year I spare myself all of this turmoil and tend to do all my Christmas shopping online. This sees me floating down the virtual aisles of numerous shops with freedom, and without pushchairs trying to run me over as well and shop assistants who are both too friendly and cheerful or are completely opposite and rude. I love the freedom this brings me and also I have more time to think about people’s presents and what to get them. Much to the joy of himself as he doesn’t get dragged around shopping either.

This year I am one Christmas party down as two have been booked for the same date, but I have made up for this by holding a party at the beginning of December. This shall be a Lord of the Rings Evening. Basically showing the films back to back while people drink and eat. People shall be required to drink out of goblets or tankards and the food shall have a LOTR theme to it. Of course there will have to be some decorations keeping in theme as well but I have yet to think about what line we wish to go down.

Back to the joy of Christmas shopping. I love to get people something a bit different and something they wouldn’t necessarily buy themselves. I love to trawl the internet and find unusual gifts which are thoughtful as well, not forgetting hunting out a good bargain. I feel I can’t do this when going to the actual shops as it takes too much time, unless I know exactly what I would like from them or they are little local boutiques and then like to keep the local shop keeper going in this very competitive world.

What is also making it difficult is finding different and unusual gifts for himself and things that he might actually want. I do tend to do him a stocking every year filled with bits and pieces of fun things little tit bits, which is nice to put together. I generally get all this from Hawkins Bizarre, which is great. However it’s the main presents I am stuck on, I have one sussed but for the rest, who knows, I am sure inspiration will hit at some point…..

28 Years Later

My word I can’t believe that 28 years ago this month I met my best friend.  Who would have thought it?  We have been together through thick and thin, there have been highs and lows but like any relationship you have to work at it. We can remember that our first argument was about the size of a killer whale, I think I said it was as big as a house.  Goodness knows.  Anyway, we have had some other disagreements since then but when it comes down to it we are still there for each other.  I think we also know when we need some space and so if we don’t hear off one another for a couple of days it’s not a big thing. Ms James is my best friend for many reasons.  I know she is always there, she is very good at advice although can do with listening to her own wise words now and again, but can’t we all.  Also she doesn’t judge.  I know I can tell her anything on this planet and she won’t judge me and be nothing but a friend. I love her quirk...

Pumpkin and Butternut Squash Pie

I love the autumn and the seasonal vegetables it brings.  One of my favourites being pumpkin.  Well in a nod to this here is my really simple pumpkin and butternut squash pie. 2 bags of pre cut pumpkin and butternut squash (why sweat over cutting them up when Tesco do them in a bag £1 each and 3 for 2) garlic goats cheese spinach filo pastry olive oil salt and pepper to season Steam cook the pumpkin and Butternut squash as directed on the packet.  In a pie dish layer the bottom with spinach, add chunks of goats cheese (as much or little as you like), then add one layer of the pumpkin and butternut squash and some garlic, season. Repeat this for the second layer - spinach, goats cheese, pumpkin and butternut squash, garlic and season. With the filo pastry, for goodness sake buy this, even Mary Berry admitted to doing this!!!  Take a sheet at a time brush each side with olive oil and scrunch up by pinching from the centre and add to the top of the pi...

Like to Graze?

Well, I have started to try and be healthier, mainly with making my portions smaller and doing some exercise. I now try and go for a run once a week (to start with) and my sister and I now attend Aquafit every Thursday. The other evening when I went to one of my fantastic friend’s house I noticed these delicious looking healthy snacks on her table, brimming with flavour and healthy goodness. I just had to ask her about them. They come from a company called Graze, which is online. You can order boxes from them (a snack box or a nutrition box) which will be delivered straight to you either weekly or every other week, for a small cost (cheaper than buying it all from a supermarket for sure). The box is small enough to fit through your letter box as well, so you don’t have to worry if you’re in or not. Also you can tell them when you’re going to be on holiday so they won’t send you a box during that time. These boxes are filled to the brim with goodness, and contain things like nuts,...
