Christmas is coming and Siân is getting fat...

Something needs to be done to up the pace.  I am not far off my target weight with just 12lbs to go, this is the tough part.  I am trying very hard to juggle living life in two places what with work, friends and family, due to this I am falling down on the exercise front and this needs to be addressed.

I have been considering going for a quick fix with a silly diet (something I have never done), but realise I need to have a lifestyle change.  With living in two places this should be easier, in the week I can be really good and maybe cut down on the amount of carbs I have, replacing pasta and rice with salads and more vegetables, then I won’t feel so bad on weekends when I can then indulge a bit.  I don’t have much of a sweet tooth so don’t eat chocolate, I do have a weakness for crisps, I have already addressed this and go for the healthier option ones and at the moment love the Velvet Crunch ones.

When I started writing this post it was 6 weeks until Christmas and now it’s 4!!  With a week Friday being the works Christmas do.  It’s time to up the ante and bring on the kettle bells, I might even dig out my trainers and start running again.  I love running but suffer at times with shin splints, which is a massive pain, sometimes literally.  My other love is kettle bells, I love how versatile they are and how easy it is to fit in a blast of ultimate fat burner in after work.

It doesn’t help in work our star baker is bringing in goodies like homemade mince pies, mince pies with custard and apple and blackberry pies!!  We have also gained chocolates from the work placements we have had on site, along with biscuits from various places.

I shall loose that last 12lb I shall!!!  Here are some pics, first of me at my smallest, then biggest and now somewhere in between:

VW Bus Birthday Cake

It’s that time of year again the fantastic Mr Bus’ birthday.   Now last year I decided to design and make him a digger cake, this year of course I had to equal that effort or go one better.   I had a few ideas in the pipeline and decided to ask the Birthday boy what he would prefer.   We went with a VW Bus cake. Now I started with baking a lemon drizzle loaf cake, whilst this was cooling had the daunting thought this was not going to be high enough, so baked another lemon loaf cake, this time without the drizzle, so that I could square off the top to sit the other one on top of it.   After these had cooled down, it was time to build, placing the loaf cakes one on top of the other with a layer of vanilla butter cream in the middle, I covered the cakes all over in butter cream.   I then set about with the icing.   I thought it best to start with the white top and draped it over the cakes, just leaving enough for a slight overlap at the bottom. ...

Like to Graze?

Well, I have started to try and be healthier, mainly with making my portions smaller and doing some exercise. I now try and go for a run once a week (to start with) and my sister and I now attend Aquafit every Thursday. The other evening when I went to one of my fantastic friend’s house I noticed these delicious looking healthy snacks on her table, brimming with flavour and healthy goodness. I just had to ask her about them. They come from a company called Graze, which is online. You can order boxes from them (a snack box or a nutrition box) which will be delivered straight to you either weekly or every other week, for a small cost (cheaper than buying it all from a supermarket for sure). The box is small enough to fit through your letter box as well, so you don’t have to worry if you’re in or not. Also you can tell them when you’re going to be on holiday so they won’t send you a box during that time. These boxes are filled to the brim with goodness, and contain things like nuts,...

Pumpkin and Butternut Squash Pie

I love the autumn and the seasonal vegetables it brings.  One of my favourites being pumpkin.  Well in a nod to this here is my really simple pumpkin and butternut squash pie. 2 bags of pre cut pumpkin and butternut squash (why sweat over cutting them up when Tesco do them in a bag £1 each and 3 for 2) garlic goats cheese spinach filo pastry olive oil salt and pepper to season Steam cook the pumpkin and Butternut squash as directed on the packet.  In a pie dish layer the bottom with spinach, add chunks of goats cheese (as much or little as you like), then add one layer of the pumpkin and butternut squash and some garlic, season. Repeat this for the second layer - spinach, goats cheese, pumpkin and butternut squash, garlic and season. With the filo pastry, for goodness sake buy this, even Mary Berry admitted to doing this!!!  Take a sheet at a time brush each side with olive oil and scrunch up by pinching from the centre and add to the top of the pi...
